5 Fun Team-Building Exercises for Healthcare Professionals

Effective teamwork is a critical component of a company’s success. A team building activity may be just the thing your employees and your organization needs.

Being a healthcare provider during these trying times can be super stressful and exhausting. This is dangerous for both personnel and patients, as many hospitals or healthcare jobs involve life-or-death circumstances requiring undivided attention.

Engagement is key. There’s a strong link between team members’ bonds and engagement. According to a recent Gallup study, intimate, professional friendships increase employee happiness by 50% which can alleviate healthcare work overload.

Also, workers who self-identify as having a best friend at work are seven times more likely to be wholly engaged at work. Another Gallup study showed that engaged organizations beat their competitors in terms of earnings, productivity, and turnover.

Strengths And Weaknesses Game

Leaders should establish a more serious tone for this team development exercise. The organizer offers each team member a notebook and instructs them to write two strengths and one flaw about themselves on separate pages of paper.

Ask the team to provide constructive criticism when describing their flaws and that personal attacks are not accepted. Finally, the organizer collects the papers and distributes them to the right employee. This exercise can reveal team-wide behaviors and attitudes.

Tallest Tower Contest

Coworkers’ communication, cooperation, and teamwork are highlighted in this exercise. Participants are split up into three or four smaller groups, each with at least three persons. Paper plates, glasses, bowls, popsicle sticks, pencils, construction paper, and masking tape are necessary supplies.

Unevenly packed materials are distributed among the organizer’s bags. In making three bags, for example, one team can have ten paper plates, five pencils, eight pieces of construction paper, 3 popsicle sticks and 12 pencils; another bag might contain 35 paper cups, two pencils, seven pieces of construction paper, and 8 popsicle sticks. The possibilities are endless.

A little roll of masking tape and a supply bag are the following items that each team receives. Each group is given 20 minutes to create the tallest tower possible. Fun, right?

Two Truths and a Lie

This is a good ice breaker for new teams or groups of new employees to get to know one another. Participants are instructed to sit in a circle by the event coordinator.

Everyone gets their own piece of paper and a pen. Each person writes down two truths and a lie. Gather all the papers and read them aloud to the employees to figure out which of their papers contains a misleading assertion.

It’s also possible for each employee to read their statement aloud so that others can guess which one is a false claim. They’ll know more about each other, and they’ll have a lot of fun. This can help address all the negative impacts of ineffective communication in healthcare.

Find 10 Things in Common With Each Other.

So, here’s how it goes. You can divide the staff into groups of three or four for this exercise, making it ideal for bigger units. Each team lists ten items all the people at your table share in common. A notetaker records the ten items, and at the end of the session, each group shares its list.

The Office Trivia Game

If you’re looking for a simple yet effective team-building activity that is also appropriate for remote workers, this is perfect. Create a set of 20-25 questions that are industry-specific and assess your team’s understanding. This is a fun team-building exercise that can be done in a conference room or via Zoom, and it measures how attentive your group is.
